World over, if you ask a mom if she is happier now that she is a mom then what she was pre-baby and most will say “Yes”! As a new mom, you may have your moments of happiness but perhaps you are finding that more often than not being a new mom is not all the fun you thought it would be.

Sleepless nights, crying baby, can’t remember the last time you showered or had a moment to yourself! I know, but take heart in the fact that you are not alone. There is not a mom out there that hasn’t felt this way.

While a debate continues to rage among educationalists about the best time to teach children to read, tiny babies are proving time and again that they not only can read, but love to do so.

Felicity Wong is a case in point. A YouTube video shows her reading more than a dozen words just two days after her first birthday. As her father writes and erases the words on a magnetic doodle pad, the tiny girl gestures to indicate the meaning of each word in turn, even pronouncing a couple of them out loud.

The normal baby blues can happen in the days right after childbirth and normally disappear within a few days to a week. As a new mother, you can routinely have mood swings, sadness, crying spells, loss of appetite, sleeping problems or feel irritable, restless, anxious and lonely.

Usually, these symptoms are not severe and treatment is not needed. However, there are things you can do to feel better. Nap when the baby does. Ask for help from your spouse, family members and friends. Join a support group of new moms or talk with other moms.

Okay, it is time for you to shake the frumpy mom look and get your groove back. Being a beautiful and feminine creature is not something that should fly out the window when you become a mom. Don’t roll your eyes and say that you don’t want to. I know with energy levels at an all time low, it can be hard trying to even contemplate focusing on how you look.

It’s not that what you wear really matters. It is more how it makes you feel. When you look and dress crummy, it can’t help your confidence. Now that you have had the baby it is time for you to reclaim your pre-baby sexy, sensual side.

At some stage every child will have the upset of a loss of a friend, loved one or pet. For my kids, it happened just last week.

We were dog sitting for friends and somehow the dog got inside (I’m not quite sure how it happened, no-one has owned up to it yet). But the thing was the bird was out of the cage on it’s perch.

The details are a little fuzzy about what happened next. I’m guessing the budgie flew off it’s perch to the ground and the dog got it. Whatever happened, I was in the bedroom when I heard the kids screaming hysterically.
